Golf Course Winter Works Programme

We have been fortunate to enjoy a relatively mild November but by looking at the trees it is clear that the Winter months are here.  It is therefore an appropriate time to provide an update to members regarding the Winter improvement works for the 18 hole course and Par 3 course.

18 HOLE COURSE

Pathways

Last year we upgraded some of the areas between greens and tees by introducing woodchip walkways.  This work will be continued over the Winter and include the:

Area between the 2nd green and 3rd tee
Area between the 8th green and 9th tee
Area adjacent to the 18th tee

Ponds

The pond on the 3rd and series of ponds between the 4th and 6th will be cleared and tidied up to enhance the appearance of the holes; this work has already commenced.

“Earthquake”

The works done in the Autumn to reduce compaction will continue into the Winter, this is a very effective method in improving drainage to the course.

Woods

With the course’s trees maturing year on year we are aware of the need to undertake a programme of tree works.  The focus will be on the 7th hole but many areas will undergo a degree of work to control growth.

PAR 3 COURSE

Since our last communication in September regarding the par 3 course the green keeping team, after much hard work, have finished building the final four greens (holes 6-9) and this area to the north of the driveway is beginning to mature well.  As a result of the order of events, the first 5 holes are naturally more developed than holes 6-9 and therefore at this stage we envisage opening holes 1-5 in advance of the remaining four.  Preliminary dates for opening at this stage are:

Holes 1-5: Spring 2016
Holes 6-9: late Summer 2016
We will of course keep you updated on how the final touches are progressing over the duration of the Winter.

Our sights now turn to the tees and after much thought have decided to pursue the astro turf route.

Astro turf tees

We will commence installation over the Winter to provide an all year playing surface.  As evidenced by the astro tees that were installed on the 18 hole course, the development of artificial teeing areas has come a long way over the past few years and will greatly benefit the new par 3 course.

Course set up

Pathway works to the areas surrounding the 1st green and 2nd tee will be commenced along with tree pruning and course furniture installation.

We will continue to keep you up to date on all new developments.
