Club Granted Planning Permission

Local family owned business granted multi-million pound planning permission

Investment shapes the future for Slinfold Golf & Country Club, with larger premises, expanded services and a bright future.

Horsham based Slinfold Golf and Country Club is pleased to announce that planning permission has been granted (Friday 22nd January) for expansion of the existing facilities at the Club.  This will include investing several million pounds in building a 70 bedroom Lodge, alongside expanding the events and functions space to allow for golf and spa breaks, parties, weddings and conferences.  Our Retreat spa will grow from four to seven luxury treatment rooms, and our Driving Range area will be transformed to become a premier golf coaching venue.

The exciting developments, due to go out to tender during 2016, is expected to take 3 to five years to complete, and will generate new jobs for the local Horsham area in the fields of food and beverage, banqueting and hospitality management in particular.

General Manager Luke Blacker  “We are proud of being a family owned and run Club.  We believe this makes us special, helping to maintain a welcoming family feel to the Club.   With Peter and I working at the Club on a daily basis we are in a great position to watch the Club evolve and to be a part of its development.”

Peter Blacker, owner, says “Our members and staff are behind us on this new venture, and we look forward to them being by our side every step of the journey.  Whilst change can be unsettling, we can only see positives for the local area and our members during these exciting times. ”

The developments will see expansion to the already existing golf course and Club House that had a significant refurbishment in 2009.   With the state of the art gym, pool, three studios, locker rooms, luxury treatment rooms, crèche, driving range and Club Lounge area already a huge success, the new development will help to secure the Clubs future as one of the premiere Country Club facilities in West Sussex and over the Surrey border.

Frequently Asked Questions:

18th Hole - Some of the membership raised the question of how the 18th green would be amended in light of the development.  No decision has been made but we aim to create an improved finishing hole and will be discussing the options with the membership in due course.  We will of course be taking professional advice from a golf architect before any changes are put forward.
18th Hole - We were asked about the time frame for moving the 18th green.  There are no set timescales for this at present but will be communicated further once we have a clearer schedule of works for the development as a whole.
Tee Times - How will the management team guarantee that lodge guests will not impact on members tee times? - The Club are dedicated to looking after the membership.  There will always be priority tee times for members and after reviewing how other larger hotels manage this there should not be any issue at Slinfold.
Gym & Pool - What access would lodge guests have to the gym and pool? - Members will remain the top priority and in the same way there will be protected tee times, we would not allow lodge access to the H&F facilities to impinge on the members.  Therefore we may restrict the times hotel users / guests can access the facilities or limit the numbers at any one time.
Subscription - The question was asked as to whether membership subscriptions would increase when the lodge is built?  We view the lodge as being ancillary to the existing leisure offer and therefore it will not influence our current pricing review structure.
Operational - How will the management handle the disruption caused by the build?  Alternative site access routes will e explored to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.  The widening of the club driveway as per the plans will greatly assist customer traffic flow within the site as well as improve the access / egress arrangements.  No decision in relation to the management of the site will be taken lightly or without full consideration to the members' use and enjoyment of the Club.
Studio 3 - Members enquired into the future of Studio 3 (holistic class studio) and whether it would be relocated into the extended main building?  This suggestion will be carefully considered and discussed but in the short term action will be taken to improve the Studio 3 environment.
General - When will work begin?  Due to the complexities of the proposed project and the early stage it is at, timescales for any physical changes to the Club in accordance with the consent are difficult to forecast.  No decision will be taken lightly or without full consideration to the members' use and enjoyment of the club, but we can confirm we do not envisage any development works commencing before Autumn 2017.
